UBC to accelerate AI-enabled teaching with new computing infrastructure and services
April 9, 2026
UBC is expanding its capacity for AI-enabled academic work through new investments in infrastructure, services, and expert support. Launched on Apr. 7, 2026, the Learning Technology Innovation Centre (LTIC) offers new services to help faculty explore and apply AI in support of their teaching—from ideation to deployment.
Towards UBC’s Strategic Direction, Excel in the Development of Applications of Emerging Technologies, UBC is investing in new on-premises and Canadian-based cloud infrastructure to enable secure, cost-effective innovation, with a strong focus on domestic data residency for sensitive and high-risk data. LTIC is working in collaboration with UBC’s Advanced Research Computing (ARC) to acquire advanced GPU computing technology to run open-source large language models locally, strengthening university-wide capacity for AI-driven teaching, learning, and discovery.
