I am pleased to share that Rowena Yang has been appointed as Associate Vice-President, Finance, effective September 10, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer pro tem.

In this role, Rowena will provide strategic leadership and oversight of financial services across the institution, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, governance and reporting. She will continue to steward UBC’s integrated distributed financial model, ensuring consistent financial practice and informed, strategic decision-making across Faculties and administrative portfolios.

Rowena joins UBC from Finning International, where she spent nearly 20 years in senior finance roles, most recently as Global Finance Director. She led the company’s global planning, forecasting, capital allocation and reporting across Canada, the UK, and South America. Her role included overseeing consolidated budgeting cycles, Board-level reporting and executive insights, and key enterprise planning and consolidation systems. She also worked closely with regional finance leaders and corporate teams to align financial plans with strategic priorities. Rowena is a UBC alumna with a Bachelor of Commerce from the Sauder School of Business and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. She began her career with Grant Thornton LLP and later held an Assistant Vice-President role with Marsh Management Services in Bermuda.

Many thanks to the search committee, which included members of UBC’s Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders from across UBC for their help in selecting Rowena to support the university in this critical role.

Please join me in welcoming Rowena to UBC.

Yale Loh
Chief Financial Officer, pro tem
