Preparing UBC for the global soccer tournament this summer

With Vancouver set to host the upcoming global soccer tournament, the National Soccer Development Centre (NSDC) at UBC will serve as a training site for Canada’s Men’s National Team and other international teams between June 11 and July 19. 

In anticipation of operational impacts to the campus community, we are committed to ensuring that students, faculty, and staff have the information required to plan and be prepared. 

To support your planning, a central website for Frequently Asked Questions is now available, with information regarding traffic, parking, facility closures, events, and more.

We recognize the broader significance of this event for our province, and that members of the UBC community may wish to be involved. Additional informational is available on the tournament organizer’s official website.

While we do not anticipate significant disruptions, we recommend you review your operational plans and determine if any staff or faculty in your department/unit may be impacted by difficulties getting to and from campus because of travel delays during this time. Please note that there may be potential increases in campus visitors, security personnel and media presence near the NSDC and surrounding athletic facilities. 

Faculty are also encouraged to consider the needs of students commuting from across Metro Vancouver, as local high-traffic events, ranging from downtown match days to on-campus training or large-scale university activities, may significantly impact transit capacity and travel times.
