September 9, 2025
I am pleased to announce that Kurt Heinrich has been appointed Associate Vice-President, Communications, effective September 15, 2025.
Kurt joined the university in 2018 as Senior Director, Media Relations, and became Executive Director, Media Relations and Issues Management last fall. In these roles, he has been instrumental in building and protecting UBC’s reputation, advancing its first integrated content strategy, and advising the President and senior leaders on key communications initiatives. Before coming to UBC, Kurt held senior communications roles at Simon Fraser University and the Vancouver School Board.
As the new Associate Vice-President, Communications, Kurt will lead the central Communications portfolio and advance UBC’s new strategic directions through integrated communications and marketing initiatives. He will work closely with faculty and administrative partners to support alignment across the institution, while also providing counsel and advice on reputation management to senior leadership.
I would like to thank the search committee for their contributions to this process and the Communications portfolio for their ongoing commitment during the transition.
Please join me in congratulating Kurt on his appointment and welcoming him to this new role.
Melanie Stewart
Vice-President, External Relations
