    Announcing the Campus as a Living Lab Grand Challenge 2023 funding recipients

    Three innovative projects that strengthen UBC’s sustainability leadership have been awarded funding through the annual Campus as a Living Lab (CLL) Grand Challenge 2023 competition.Faculty and staff from 22 academic departments and units across both campuses applied for this year’s competition, with innovative proposals that blended creativity and research excellence, within UBC and beyond, aimed at addressing the climate emergency.

    UBC Okanagan’s newest research clusters strive for a better world

    The newest UBC Okanagan Eminence research clusters are utilizing their interdisciplinary expertise to tackle some of society’s most complex and urgent challenges.Clusters of Research Excellence are interdisciplinary teams of researchers that focus on addressing complicated societal problems beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. Funded through the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation’s Eminence Program over the next three years, the research clusters will address:

    UBC Vancouver – Apply to the Sustainability Coordinator Program

     The Sustainability Coordinator Program provides faculty and staff with opportunities and resources to promote and implement sustainable practices at work at UBC Vancouver. It allows interested faculty and staff to work up to four paid hours per month (subject to supervisor approval). The program is aimed at enhancing sustainability awareness within your Faculty/unit, fostering relationships, and promoting sustainable practices across UBC through peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing.

    Learn more about UBC’s faculty and staff (FAS) email migration to the cloud

    With data security a priority at UBC, the university is taking action by preparing to migrate all faculty and staff email services (FASmail) from being hosted on-premises to the cloud platform Microsoft Exchange Online.  The migration will take place over the course of the next 12-18 months on a departmental basis, beginning with UBC IT and a number of pilot departments.

    Marie Tarrant

    Dr. Marie Tarrant is Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Development and professor in the School of Nursing at UBC Okanagan. She was appointed to the role of Dean in January 2023. Prior to this, she was Director of the School of Nursing. Before joining UBC in 2016, Dr. Tarrant served as Deputy Head and Professor at the School of Nursing in the University of Hong Kong. During her career, she has also practiced as a community and public health nurse in rural and remote areas of Canada, including the far north. Dr. Tarrant is the lead investigator in the School of Nursing Maternal and Child Health Lab and is a frequently cited UBC expert on maternal and child health issues. Her research focuses on breastfeeding and maternal and childhood vaccine hesitancy, including COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.
