“Asking the right questions” – On AI’s untapped potential for journalism

Journalism and technological innovation are not strange bedfellows. The field of journalism has gone from strength to strength by harnessing the power of new technology, be it embracing computer-processed type setting over linotype, or switching over to the internet from radio and telegraph, to name only a few such adoptions.

Dr. Alfred Hermida, Professor at UBC School of Journalism, Writing, and Media, and award-winning online news pioneer and digital media scholar with more than two decades of experience in digital journalism, shares thoughts about AI’s role in journalism, using ChatGPT for coursework, and why there aren’t many social media influencers who are journalists.
