UBC congratulates new University Killam Professors

This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers, and senior professional leaders in Vancouver and the Okanagan.

I am delighted to announce the appointment of three new University Killam Professors. This is the highest honour that UBC can confer on a faculty member.

Our three new University Killam Professors were each nominated by our community of faculty, staff, students and alumni. They are exceptional teachers and researchers who are leaders in their fields and have received international recognition for their talents and achievements.

The University Killam Professors appointed in 2022/23 are:

  • Professor Nemy Banthia, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Applied Science
  • Professor Dominic McIver Lopes, Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts
  • Professor Natalie Strynadka, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine

    Professor Janice L. Stewart appointed Deputy Provost at UBC Vancouver

    It is my pleasure to announce that Professor Janice L. Stewart has been appointed as Deputy Provost for a five-year term, starting May 15, 2024.As Deputy Provost, Professor Stewart will focus on providing strategic leadership and oversight for academic affairs, faculty recruitment and retention, and ongoing faculty relations matters. They will also support the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, in the realization of the university’s strategic academic aspirations.
