New Strategic Space Committee at UBC Okanagan

17 June, 2021

A message from Ananya Mukherjee Reed, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan; Philip Barker, Vice-Principal and Associate Vice-President, Research & Innovation, UBC Okanagan

Since its opening in 2005, the Okanagan campus has expanded significantly and cultivated a thriving community of students, researchers and creative scholars, and staff.

As a result, we are experiencing space limitations in several areas. The development of new projects such as the Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation (ICI) Building and the downtown project will provide some relief but space allocation and development will remain challenging for years to come.

A new UBCO Strategic Space Committee has been created to develop a long-term strategic approach to addressing these challenges. The committee will evaluate and make recommendations for allocation of existing or new space requirements to accommodate the increasing number of students, faculty and staff on our campus. The committee will also address major academic and administrative initiatives that have space implications.
