26 October, 2022

Last year, UBC announced that it is expanding its presence in Surrey to build the university’s regional presence, as well as improve access to post-secondary education in the Fraser region. I am pleased to announce that Dr. Robert W. Helsley has been appointed as Associate Provost for the UBC at Surrey project, effective October 1, 2022 for a two-year term.

Dr. Helsley is the Grosvenor Professor of Cities, Business Economics and Public Policy at UBC Sauder School of Business where he has served as Dean from 2012 to 2022.

In this role, Dr. Helsley will provide leadership in the planning and programming of the university’s academic and support facilities for the Surrey site in partnership with Faculties from UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, as well as the UBC Properties Trust.

For full details of the announcement, read more.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Helsley in his new role.
