UBC Vancouver – call for proposals for teaching-related funding opportunities

This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers, and senior professional leaders in Vancouver.

23 September, 2021

We are pleased to invite proposals for a number of teaching-related funding opportunities this fall, in support of advancing UBC’s academic mission. This year, we have expanded our scope of funding by launching a new call for ‘Students as Partners’ in course design. Your support in encouraging UBC Vancouver faculty, staff and students to apply for these opportunities would be greatly appreciated. More information about the application details, deadlines and adjudication criteria can be found on the respective websites, below.

Small Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) Innovation projects

Small TLEF Innovation projects support grassroots experimentation with pedagogical approaches to enhance learning. Faculty, staff and students can apply for grants up to $50,000. The deadline is 3pm on November 18, 2021. Find out more at: https://tlef.ubc.ca/announcements/2022-small-TLEF-innovation.

Open Educational Resources (OER) Fund

The OER Fund supports affordable and inclusive access to learning materials through the adoption and integration of open educational resources:

  • OER Rapid Innovation Grants up to $2,000; applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
  • OER Implementation Grants up to $25,000 to incorporate OERs as required materials into UBC Vancouver credit courses. Applications will be accepted until 3pm on November 25, 2021.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Two types of SoTL funding are available to faculty members:

Students as Partners

Students as Partners is a new fund that offers grants up to $7,100 per funded project to encourage faculty and students to work in partnership to redesign an undergraduate course. In total, up to 40 projects will be funded over the next two years. Planning documents will be available October 25, 2021, with applications due February 1, 2022. Find out more at: https://sap.ubc.ca.

Thank you in advance for your support towards encouraging the UBC community to apply for these opportunities.
