We are pleased to announce that Workday Student will reach a key milestone next week, when it becomes directly accessible by UBC’s student population.On May 21, all new and returning UBC students will gain access to Workday Student to support all their academic administrative activities for the Winter 2024 session and beyond.

May is celebrated as Asian Heritage Month, and in honour of this occasion, we invited three Arts faculty members to share their favourite art and literature pieces from their culture that hold personal significance.Art and literature form the foundation of one’s heritage and culture, influencing an individual’s values and identity. A total of 136 teams took part at UBC Vancouver while UBC Okanagan had its biggest Sports Day yet with 270 participants. The fun event was made possible with the support of a dedicated group of staff and volunteers who made this amazing day possible.

Frank Laezza
Frank Laezza is UBC’s Vice-President, Finance and Operations (VPFO). He is responsible for leading the VPFO team in overseeing the stewardship of the university’s physical and financial assets, and the safety, risk and assurance functions across both campuses.He serves as a member of UBC’s executive leadership team, and is a board member with both UBC Investment Management, which manages the endowment and staff pension plan, and UBC Properties Trust which develops and manages real estate assets for the benefit of the university.Frank began his role with UBC in March 2023 after serving in leadership roles at a number of Australia’s post-secondary institutions, including Murdoch University, Technical and Further Education State Vocational College (NSW), the University of Technology in Sydney, and the University of New South Wales. He is a strong believer in connected leadership and is working to transform the VPFO into a strategic business partner to other faculties and departments. He aims to instill a culture where everyone embraces curiosity, possesses the financial knowledge to make informed choices, and takes ownership to drive positive, collective change.

Indigenous data sovereignty and conservation in British Columbia
Indigenous Peoples and communities have been stewards of their lands and waters for millennia, and as a result, have developed deep place-based knowledge systems. It is only recently, however, that Western scientists are beginning to recognize that the knowledge and wisdom held by Indigenous Peoples is at once scientific, spiritual, holistic, and action-oriented. While this recognition is long overdue, it is also pressuring Indigenous Peoples to use their lands and knowledge systems to solve environmental crises that are not of their making.
