Andrew Simpson
Andrew Simpson joined UBC’s Executive in June 2015 to lead the university’s Finance portfolio across the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Born in New Zealand — but a holder of dual citizenship — Andrew brings 25 years of experience leading finance and operations portfolios for post-secondary institutions in both New Zealand and Canada.

Martha C. Piper
Dr. Martha C. Piper is Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of UBC. A native of Lorain, Ohio, Dr. Piper served as UBC’s 11th President from 1997 to 2006. She recently returned to the university as Interim President, to lead UBC through its Centennial year. Over the course of her career, Dr. Piper has been the recipient of 17 honorary degrees, as well as being an officer in the Order of Canada and a member of the Order of British Columbia.

Gage Averill
Gage Averill is the dean of Arts, UBC’s largest Faculty. While his career began in Forestry, a move to the University of Washington marked the beginning of a career in ethnomusicology (the study of music in its cultural context), which – in addition to earning him a Grammy nomination – has taken him from Columbia University to Wesleyan, New York University, and the University of Toronto before taking the helm of UBC’s Faculty of Arts in 2010.

Rickey Yada
Dr. Rickey Yada is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. A Vancouver native, Rickey earned his BSc (Agriculture), MSc and PhD from UBC, before heading to the University of Guelph, where he spent the last 30 years. In October 2014, Rickey returned to UBC to commence his five-year Deanship, bringing to the role a strong commitment to research, teaching and learning.

Susan Porter
Susan is a molecular biologist by trade. Originally from Montreal, she came to UBC in 1980 to complete her PhD and was appointed as Assistant Professor in 1991. She left basic research six years later to lead the molecular diagnostic work for the microbiology laboratory at Vancouver General Hospital. With an interest in graduate education, she became increasingly involved in administration, culminating in her appointment in 2011 as interim Dean of Graduate Studies, and as Dean and Vice-Provost in 2013. In her role, she leads the charge in championing graduate education and postdoctoral studies at UBC, and helping to ensure they are the best they can be.

John Hepburn
John Hepburn is UBC's Vice President, Research & International. John first joined UBC in 2001 as a Professor of Chemistry and Physics & Astronomy, and Head of Chemistry. He became Dean of Science in 2003, and Vice President, Research in 2005. The international portfolio was added to John’s list of responsibilities in August 2009. He has been awarded the Rutherford Medal and the Noranda Prize and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the American Physical Society, and the Canadian Institute for Chemistry. In addition to his work at UBC, John currently serves as a Board member for numerous organizations.
