Rickey Yada
Dr. Rickey Yada is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. A Vancouver native, Rickey earned his BSc (Agriculture), MSc and PhD from UBC, before heading to the University of Guelph, where he spent the last 30 years. In October 2014, Rickey returned to UBC to commence his five-year Deanship, bringing to the role a strong commitment to research, teaching and learning.

Susan Porter
Susan is a molecular biologist by trade. Originally from Montreal, she came to UBC in 1980 to complete her PhD and was appointed as Assistant Professor in 1991. She left basic research six years later to lead the molecular diagnostic work for the microbiology laboratory at Vancouver General Hospital. With an interest in graduate education, she became increasingly involved in administration, culminating in her appointment in 2011 as interim Dean of Graduate Studies, and as Dean and Vice-Provost in 2013. In her role, she leads the charge in championing graduate education and postdoctoral studies at UBC, and helping to ensure they are the best they can be.

John Hepburn
John Hepburn is UBC's Vice President, Research & International. John first joined UBC in 2001 as a Professor of Chemistry and Physics & Astronomy, and Head of Chemistry. He became Dean of Science in 2003, and Vice President, Research in 2005. The international portfolio was added to John’s list of responsibilities in August 2009. He has been awarded the Rutherford Medal and the Noranda Prize and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the American Physical Society, and the Canadian Institute for Chemistry. In addition to his work at UBC, John currently serves as a Board member for numerous organizations.

Arvind Gupta
Professor Gupta has taught Computer Science at UBC since 2009 and is a well-regarded expert in research and innovation policy with a proven record of accomplishment in building meaningful research collaborations. From 2000 to 2014, he was the CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs, a national Canadian not-for-profit research organization dedicated to developing the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and business skills. Professor Gupta obtained a PhD from the University of Toronto in 1991. His research expertise is in the field of combinational algorithms with applications to fields such as bioinformatics, which utilizes computer science to understand genetics. He resides in Vancouver with his wife Dr. Michelle Pereira and has three daughters, one of whom is currently a student at UBC.

Lisa Castle
Meet Lisa Castle, UBC’s first Vice President, Human Resources. Prior to this, Lisa was Associate Vice President, Human Resources, a position she held since 2002. As the most senior HR position at the university and a member of UBC’s Executive Team, she is responsible for the departments of Human Resources at the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Lindsay Gordon
On July 1, 2014, Lindsay Gordon became the 18th Chancellor of UBC. A double alumnus of UBC, Gordon is the recently retired President and CEO of HSBC Bank Canada. He had a 25-year career with the bank, following 10 years in senior roles with Export Development Canada. He has served on the boards of numerous Canadian business and volunteer organizations.

Louise Cowin
Dr. Louise Cowin began her five-year term as UBC’s Vice President, Students in October 2011, and has leadership responsibility for shaping the student experience and broad learning environment at UBC. Her portfolio includes Student Development and Services, Student Housing and Hospitality Services, and Athletics and Recreation. Prior to joining UBC, Louise worked at three other Universities in Canada — she was the Warden of Hart House at the University of Toronto, a Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University, and a Professor of Outdoor and Experiential Education at Queen’s University.
