Dr. Samantha Reid appointed Associate Vice-President, Students, at UBC Vancouver

This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers, and senior professional leaders in Vancouver.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Samantha Reid as Associate Vice-President, Students, at UBC Vancouver, effective April 15, 2024.

The role is responsible for the strategic leadership and planning required to advance the goals and priorities of the Vice-President, Students portfolio and the Student Strategic Plan.

Dr. Reid joined the Office of the Vice-President, Students, as Executive Director in 2019. Over the years, the scope of her role and responsibilities expanded to include leadership of a number of units within the Vice-President, Students portfolio, as well as various UBC-wide institutional initiatives, leading to the formation of this position. Prior to this, she held several leadership positions in the Faculty of Medicine since joining UBC in 2015.

    UBC’s amended Conflict of Interest Policy (SC3)

    On March 27, the Board of Governors approved amendments to UBC’s Conflict of Interest (COI) Policy (SC3) and its associated Procedures, effective as of April 2. The policy was amended to fully reflect the annual COI reporting requirements for UBC staff members, as well as address various best practices that have emerged since the last revision.A copy of the approved Conflict of Interest Policy and its associated Procedures is available on the University Counsel website.

    Professor Janice L. Stewart appointed Deputy Provost at UBC Vancouver

    UBC planning a balanced operating budget for 2024/25

    UBC is reporting a healthy financial position as part of its 2024/25 budget proposal presented to the Board of Governors’ Finance Committee.The report was presented to the committee in advance of going to the full Board of Governors on March 27, 2024. It acknowledges that UBC, like many other universities, is navigating a challenging financial landscape. Broader economic conditions, geopolitical tensions and issues specific to higher education are creating a measure of instability and uncertainty for the post-secondary sector as a whole.
