UBCBulletin Updates for leadership

Leadership update —  Associate Vice-President  Enrolment Services and Registrar

This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers, and senior professional leaders in Vancouver and the Okanagan.

2 December, 2021

Dr. Kate Ross, Associate Vice-President Enrolment Services and Registrar, will be stepping down from her role as of December 31, 2022, and retiring March 31, 2023. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Ross for all of the work she has done to enhance the student experience at UBC.

Under Dr. Ross’ leadership, and over the course of the past eight years, Enrolment Services has seen a renewed professional service model benefiting all students and increasing opportunities for the participation of under-represented student populations. This includes a tuition waiver program, admission policy and support services for former youth in government care, and improved recruitment strategies and financial assistance for Indigenous students and domestic students with significant financial need.

As part of UBC’s strategic plan to complete the renewal of its core systems (HR, finance and student information), Dr. Ross has also been one of the lead sponsors for the Integrated Renewal Program — focusing on the upgrade and modernization of UBC’s operations and student information systems. Dr. Ross has been instrumental in shaping the program since its inception, where she was involved in developing program governance and providing overall leadership.

We are currently working with the President’s Office and the Senate Office to arrange for the appointment of a Presidential Advisory Committee to proceed with the recruitment of the next AVP Enrolment Services and Registrar. More information will be available in the new year.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Ross for her manifold contributions to UBC. We look forward to continuing to work with her in the coming months.
