I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christie Newton as Associate Vice-President, Health, effective February 1, 2024.
Since July 2022, Dr. Newton has been acting as Associate Vice-President, Health pro tem. During that time, she was instrumental in advancing key strategic priorities in collaborative health education, interdisciplinary health research, patient and community engagement, and health systems innovation. She also played a pivotal role in the development of the Gateway to Team-Based Care, a province-wide project focused on collaborative health education, interdisciplinary research, and innovative team-based primary care.
Dr. Newton is an associate professor in the Department of Family Practice in the Faculty of Medicine. She continues to practice and teach at the UBC Health Clinic, where she has been Medical Director and a preceptor to family practice residents for over 20 years.
I am very pleased that Dr. Newton has accepted this position, given she has demonstrated her capabilities in leading the UBC Health team over the years. I am confident she will continue to explore ways to enhance our existing initiatives and explore innovative ways to advance the priorities set out in our five-year Strategic Plan, Better Health Together. I look forward to the continued expertise, passion, and dedication that she brings to UBC.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Newton to her new role.
Dermot Kelleher
Vice-President, Health
