We feature selected submissions on UBC Today throughout the year to help connect faculty across disciplines and bring more visibility to the work happening in classrooms, labs, and communities.

    How hands-on undergraduate research is advancing immunobiology

    Dr. Emmanuel Osei, Assistant Professor of Biology at UBC Okanagan is co-leads the Immunobiology Research Excellence Cluster and is contributing to work that could transform cancer treatment and other lung diseases. His lab focuses on developing bio-artificial disease models to better understand how chronic lung diseases develop and progress, and he is passionate about facilitating opportunities for students to experience hands on learning.

    With heatwaves hitting Canada harder and more often, three UBC experts outline the urgent need to rethink how we design homes and neighbourhoods.Dr. Rachel H. White, an atmospheric sciences professor studying the influence of climate change on extreme weather; Dr. Lorien Nesbitt, a faculty of forestry professor focused on urban forestry and environmental justice and Dr. Sara Barron, program director of UBC’s Master of Urban Forestry Leadership call for smarter design and nature-based solutions to keep Canadians cool, safe and healthy.

    The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) will take place in Belém, Brazil, from Nov. 10–21. The Sustainability Hub is assembling a virtual delegation to witness official negotiations and take part in this year's event. Submit your application by July 8. Learn more

    Call for proposals for Emerging Media Lab projects

    Faculty members at UBC Vancouver are invited to submit a proposal to work with the Emerging Media Lab team to explore how to incorporate emerging and immersive technologies into teaching, learning or research projects.UBC’s Emerging Media Lab is an experimental lab space where faculty, staff, and students from all disciplines collaborate to evolve learning by creating tools and techniques using emerging media technologies.The deadline for submitting project proposals is July 15.
