Discover four newly funded projects aimed at boosting sustainability at UBC Vancouver
March 7, 2022
In fall 2021, the Campus as a Living Lab invited proposals from faculty and staff seeking funding for their teams to incubate, test, and demonstrate innovative research ideas in a real-world ('living lab') setting.
Now, four new sustainability projects have been awarded $200,000 in funding, and will be set in motion this year on the UBC Vancouver campus. All project submissions were scored on criteria such as innovation, impact, equity, diversity and inclusion, and research excellence.
Ranging from insect sticky traps to monitor biodiversity, to a student-staffed pilot “E-Kitchen” for electronic product repair, to a facility that will recover resources from wastewater, to design charrettes focused on enhancing student-family well-being at Acadia Park, the winning projects show ways in which sustainability can be improved using UBC’s campus lands, buildings, infrastructure, and people as a living lab.
