Announcing the appointment of the Director, Investigations Office

We are pleased to announce that Carly Stanhope has been appointed as Director, Investigations Office, effective December 6, 2021. 

Carly has been in the acting Director, Investigations Office position since June 2021.

The Director of Investigations provides oversight and guidance to ensure that investigations are conducted in a trauma-informed, confidential and respectful manner in accordance with the principles of procedural fairness. To learn more about the Investigations Office, visit: https://io.ubc.ca/.

Carly is a practicing lawyer within BC and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph, in Criminal Justice and Public Policy, and then completed her Juris Doctor at UBC’s Peter A. Allard School of Law. After finishing law school, Carly served an internship within the UBC Investigations Office before joining private legal practice. Carly joined Harris & Company LLP in 2018, where she acted as legal counsel for post secondary institutions, including UBC, on human rights complaints, as well as advising post-secondary institutions on the development and review of policies regarding human rights, bullying and harassment, and at-risk behavior.

In addition, she developed and delivered training for employers, including post-secondary institutions, on workplace bullying and harassment and sexual misconduct. Carly has had direct working experience supporting investigations and complaints related to policies SC7 Discrimination and SC17 Sexual Misconduct, within a university setting, and has provided training to legal professionals in trauma-informed investigative considerations and practices.
