Call for nominations for OER Excellence and Impact Awards

This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers in Vancouver and the Okanagan.

We are pleased to announce a call for nominations for the Open Education Resources (OER) Excellence and Impact Awards. These awards are open to faculty members at both campuses.

The OER Excellence and Impact Awards recognize outstanding work done by faculty who materially advance the use and impact of open educational resources in credit courses at UBC.

Nominees are assessed based on their overall excellence in creating, revising, or using OER in teaching and learning; the impact of their OER work for students, including addressing the affordability of educational materials; and contribution to the greater open education community at UBC.

Four awards are available: one individual and one group award at both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver.

Nominations are due by October 17, 2024, with full application packages due January 8, 2025. More details can be found at https://open.ubc.ca/oer-award/.

    Paid leave for staff between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

    With the holiday season approaching, please note that certain UBC staff are eligible for paid leave during the university’s seasonal closure – the three normal working days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.This year’s paid leave dates are Friday, Dec. 27; Monday, Dec. 30; and Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024.

    Help us engage faculty and staff in the 2024 Workplace Experiences Survey

    On November 4, UBC will open the 2024 Workplace Experiences Survey. This survey, which traditionally happens every three years, gives faculty and staff an opportunity to share feedback about their experiences working at UBC and provides leaders with unit-specific reports where there are five or more responses.Much has changed across our campuses since preceding surveys and your feedback will help us understand what is working well and where there are opportunities for change.
