    Moving staff to midpoint of salary range (midpoint progression increase)

    UBC has procedures in place to ensure that staff in the following employee groups move to the midpoint of their salary range within a specified timeframe.     Submit staff sick leave statistics for 2020 (by Jan. 29, 2021)

    Every year, Human Resources presents the Board of Governors with a report on key health indicators at the university. The report provides a snapshot of the health of our faculty and staff, which includes statistics on the average number of paid sick leave days taken by staff. In preparation for this year’s report, we request that you ensure your department’s administrator enters sick leave statistics for the 2020 calendar year by Friday, January 29, 2021.

    UBC congratulates 2020/21 University Killam Professors

    Paid leave for staff between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

    As you may be aware, certain UBC staff are eligible for paid leave during the university’s seasonal closure — the three normal working days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. This year’s seasonal closure falls on Dec. 29, 30, and 31, 2020.

    Time off to vote in the provincial election

    As you may be aware, the British Columbia provincial election takes place on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Voting will take place between 8:00am and 8:00pm.

    Update on annual merit program for eligible staff

    In June a UBC Bulletin was issued, advising that the university was postponing the decision to provide its annual merit program, due to the potential financial impact of COVID-19. Since that time, we have obtained more clarity around the financial impact of COVID-19, including data related to enrolment, tuition revenue and student housing occupancy.

    Extension of appointment of Dr. Minelle Mahtani, Senior Advisor to the Provost on Racialized Faculty

    I am pleased to announce that Dr. Minelle Mahtani’s appointment as Senior Advisor to the Provost on Racialized Faculty has been extended for a second two-year term, commencing September 1, 2020. Dr. Mahtani will continue to support our institutional commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in the scholarly and leadership environment for faculty members at UBC Vancouver.
