Leadership update – Faculty of Dentistry

This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers, and senior professional leaders in Vancouver.

3 November, 2022

I wish to announce that Dr. Mary MacDougall has informed me of her decision to step down as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry next August, when her pro tem term comes to an end.

On behalf of the university, I would like to thank Dr. MacDougall for her steady leadership and for the key role she has played in the many successes and achievements of the Faculty of Dentistry over the past five years.

During this time, Dr. MacDougall has overseen the launch of the Faculty’s Strategic Plan “IMPACT 2020-2025: Trailblazers in Oral Health for BC and Beyond”; established the Patterson Dental Learning Centre; facilitated longer term clinical faculty appointments while expanding research positions and total faculty numbers; created an International DMD Program; expanded Indigenous enrolment; transformed educational programs with the implementation of Digital Dentistry creating a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory; upgraded the 144 dental chairs in the Nobel Biocare Oral Health Centre; and increased engagement with alumni, the dental community and corporate partners while garnering the largest donation in the Faculty’s history.

Dr. MacDougall will remain in her current position until August 27, 2023. We will be launching a Decanal search shortly, with the intent of identifying a new Dean for the Faculty of Dentistry next summer.

I am grateful to Dr. MacDougall for her leadership and many contributions to the university, and look forward to continuing to work with her in the coming months.

Provost and Vice-President, Academic, pro tem, UBC Vancouver
