Leadership change within the Human Resources portfolio
I am writing to let you know that Marcia Buchholz, Vice-President, Human Resources, will be leaving UBC to take up a new opportunity as Vice-President, People and Culture at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta. Marcia’s last day at UBC will be March 31, 2024 and interim leadership of the HR portfolio will be announced shortly.

The UBC Okanagan community is invited to participate in a community engagement survey regarding an update to the existing UBC Okanagan campus plan. The campus plan, which was created in 2015, is being updated to inform how UBC Okanagan will use its land over the next 20 years.

Metro Vancouver transit strike - confirmed
CUPE Local 4500, a union representing 180 Coast Mountain Bus Company Transit Supervisors, have confirmed they are escalating labour action to shut down bus service across Metro Vancouver, starting today (January 22). This has resulted in a full-scale shut down of bus and SeaBus services for at least 48 hours. At this time, it is not expected to affect SkyTrain, Canada Line, HandyDART, West Coast Express and other contracted services, which should continue to operate.

Aspire-2040 Learning Transformations Fund call for proposals now open
UBC Okanagan faculty are invited to submit a proposal for the Aspire-2040 Learning Transformations Fund (ALT-2040).The ALT-2040 fund supports projects that advance transformative teaching and learning priorities at UBC Okanagan.Interested faculty can learn more about the fund during an online ALT-2040 Information Session on Jan. 30.Proposals are due by Feb. 29.

Update on possible Metro Vancouver transit strike
Yesterday, CUPE Local 4500, a union representing 180 Coast Mountain Bus Company Transit Supervisors, announced they intend to escalate labour action to shut down bus service across Metro Vancouver beginning at 3am on Monday, January 22.This potential job action may result in a full-scale shut down of bus and SeaBus services for at least 48 hours. Federal Government releases Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern
This week, the Federal Government released the new Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern, which will impact researchers applying for funding through the federal granting agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) and the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
