I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christie Newton as Associate Vice-President, Health pro tem, effective July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022.

Dr. Newton is an associate professor and the Associate Head, Education and Engagement in the Department of Family Practice in the Faculty of Medicine. In this role, she is working on a province-wide project funded by the Ministry of Health, aimed at supporting the design and evaluation of teaching within team-based models of care embedded in Primary Care Network communities. She is also the Medical Director of the UBC Health Clinic.

Dr. Newton has been very engaged with UBC Health activities for many years. She is currently a co-facilitator of the TBC@UBC Network and a member of the Health Systems Partnership Group. Dr. Newton has also been working closely with UBC Health on the design and implementation of a new interprofessional teaching clinic for the Gateway Building at UBC Vancouver aimed at modelling innovative team-based care and collaborative health education.

As Associate Vice-President, Health pro tem, Dr. Newton will provide leadership to the UBC Health team and continue to advance key strategic priorities on collaborative health education, interdisciplinary health research, and health systems. I am very pleased that Dr. Newton has accepted this position and will bring her considerable experience while we search for a new Associate Vice-President, Health.

I would like to thank Dr. Anne Martin-Matthews for her leadership and dedication over the course of her tenure as the inaugural Associate Vice-President, Health. Her unwavering commitment and contributions have propelled significant momentum of the UBC Health strategic plan, Better Health Together across both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Newton to her new role at UBC Health.

Dermot Kelleher
Vice-President, Health
