Describe what you do at UBC in 10 words or less:
Help the UBC community understand the change to Workday Student.
What is the best thing about your work/role at UBC?
The IRP Student project is an enormous one. We are implementing a massive change, and it is difficult and complex. I am inspired on a daily basis by the ability of my colleagues to be agile and responsive to the community's needs. Although fast-paced and challenging, my role is extremely satisfying. Being able to help others understand what is changing and how it will impact them is so gratifying.
What do you think is the greatest question ever asked?
Why? I think "why?" is such a powerful question. I remember when my children were toddlers and they constantly asked "why?" - and genuinely wanted to know the answer. I feel it's important to question things and starting with "why?" is usually the best approach.
What's one personal experience you would encourage others to do/try?
Work in the service industry. I believe it is so character-building to work in a role where you must interact with the public. You learn so much about human behaviour and how to respond to difficult situations. I worked in restaurants all over the world, and I would say it was the best way to figure out how to diffuse tense situations, practice diplomacy, and learn to think on my feet.
