Participate in Celebrate Learning Week, May 17 – 23
Celebrate Learning Week (CLW) is a week-long initiative celebrating teaching and learning opportunities at UBC. Now in its twelfth year, CLW will be hosted online from May 17 – 23, 2021. The theme of this year’s showcase is shaping our future. For the first time, the Provost and Vice-President Academic from UBCV and UBCO will collaboratively present this week-long initiative that showcases teaching and learning opportunities at UBC through open lectures, poster sessions, workshops and more.

A message from Ananya Mukherjee Reed, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan Dear colleagues, As you know, the month of May is Asian Heritage Month. It comes to us amidst significant adversities: the unprecedented rise of anti-Asian racism, the scepter of the unrelenting pandemic, the humanitarian crisis in India and so on. And yet even in the face of such daunting realities, we see communities coming together, raising their voices and offering support to one another, within and across borders.

The Killam Teaching Prize is adjudicated within each Faculty at the Vancouver campus, and within the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic at the Okanagan campus. Conjuring the future
An oboist wanders barefoot in near-darkness. He plays a string of searching notes, trails off, and begins again, elaborating the melody. He stops, peers. Ahead, curled up on the ground, lies a body. The oboist removes the mouthpiece from his instrument and blows into the barrel. A light flickers, and there is movement. The figure of a cyborg staggers to its feet, vertebral loops pulsing a deep blue. Who are these two strangers? Creator and creation? Master and servant? Adversaries?
