Apply for the Partnership Recognition Fund to support your community-university partnership
The Partnership Recognition Fund provides funding for community groups working in partnership with UBC faculty, staff and students, and is designed to help fill small resource gaps and acknowledge the work of community groups. Every day, people on and off-campus work together on joint initiatives that benefit the community and the university. From engaged research, experiential learning, planning and policy development, to educational programming, dialogue projects, and workshops, our impact grows when we work together.

Even before the term COVID-19 was a household name, the World Health Organization had designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. It was to be a year of celebration, milestones and recruitment opportunities to encourage more people to think about nursing as a career. Marie Tarrant, director of UBC Okanagan’s School of Nursing, reflects on 2020 and how the events of the pandemic brought home the significance of nurses in our society today.

A bit of stress might not be so good for us after all: UBC study
The notion that a bit of stress makes people perform better has been baked into our everyday lives. But research from UBC neuroscientist Dr. Adele Diamond suggests it might not be so good for us after all. The study, published recently in Cerebral Cortex, found that even mild stress may harm most people’s executive functions—mental skills such as self-control, focused attention, working memory and problem solving.
