    Appointment of Dr. James Olson, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science, for a second term

    We are pleased to announce that the UBC Board of Governors has approved the extension of appointment of Dr. James Olson as Dean, Faculty of Applied Science, for a second five-year term, commencing July 1, 2023.  During his first term as Dean, Dr. Olson has made many notable achievements. He led a community-engaged process to co-create the Faculty’s strategic plan,Transforming Tomorrow, and nearly doubled annual research funding from $53-million to $99.8-million.

    Reappointment of Ms. Heather McCaw as Vice-President, Development and Alumni Engagement

    A message from Deborah Buszard, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor   Yesterday the UBC Board of Governors approved the reappointment of Ms. Heather McCaw as Vice-President, Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE), for a second term starting November 1, 2023. Ms. McCaw took on the role of Vice-President, DAE, in 2018. During her first term as Vice-President, she has led her portfolio to record levels of success.

    UBCO researcher swings the pendulum on fibre intake

    A UBC Okanagan researcher wants to turn the tables on the long-held practice of restricting fibre completely for people living with inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Natasha Haskey, a registered dietitian who works with the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science‘s Centre for Microbiome and Inflammation Research, focuses her research on nutrition for people with digestive diseases. Her most recent paper examines whether it’s time to re-think what people living with certain conditions—including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis—should eat.

    Weaving Relations, a new self-paced, online training course, is now available to UBC faculty and staff. This course explores Indigenous histories, people and contexts, as well as settler colonialism in Canada, through the lens of Indigenous-Canadian relationships.

    UBC injury prevention expert shares top tips to keep you and your kids safe this summer

    Summer is here, and families are flocking to beaches, lakes and pools to beat the heat. But, when the right precautions aren’t taken, swimming and other water activities can be risky, especially for babies and young children who can drown in as little as an inch of water—in a matter of seconds. Dr. Ian Pike, Professor of Pediatrics in UBC’s Faculty of Medicine, debunks some of the myths about drowning and shares some evidence-based advice to keep you and your kids safe this summer.

    UBC is embarking on a search for a new Dean and Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) at UBC Vancouver.Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, the Dean and Vice-Provost, G+PS, is responsible for providing leadership for graduate and postdoctoral studies at UBC Vancouver, including long-term strategic planning, quality assurance, and academic development, in collaboration with the Deans, other academic leaders, and a variety of service units.
