Describe what you do at UBC in 10 words or less:

Team lead for the Onboard Reporting stream – SADR Reporting team.

Tell us about the team you work with – what do they do?

The IRP / SADR Reporting team has two streams. The Onboard Reporting team produces operational, tactical, strategic, and regulatory reports in Workday and other point solutions for the Student project. The Offboard Reporting team brings data into UDaP – the University Data Platform, and then prepares datasets for various Business Intelligence and Analytics teams across UBC.

What is your favourite quote and why?

"The beauty is not making things perfect. It's making imperfect things work." This pearl of practical wisdom was shared with our team during the time we were working in Africa. How many times it helped me to see things in perspective! Sometimes, it's not possible to fix what is wrong, but it is always possible to learn how to deal with it and to make even the most challenging situation flourish!

What’s one personal experience you would encourage others to do/try?

Move abroad. My husband and I lived in Africa for five years, and those years changed us for good. We also spent from one to three months in 20 different countries, on three continents (for work, not tourism). Some of them were very poor places. We've got to know new people, new cultures, new perspectives, and most of all, new values. You will find out we are all the same, members of the same global village.
