    Announcing the appointment of Associate Vice-President, University Relations at UBC Okanagan

    I am pleased to announce the appointment of Marten Youssef as the inaugural Associate Vice-President, University Relations at UBC Okanagan, effective January 4, 2022. In this role, Marten will provide oversight to UBC Okanagan’s marketing, internal communications, media relations, community engagement and ceremonial activities on campus and will continue to build on the strong ties between UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan.

    UBC Vancouver - gas restriction extended to December 14

    Please note: This Bulletin was originally issued on November 22 to inform faculty and staff about a restriction on the purchase of fuel, as a result of the recent floods. The fuel restriction has now been extended until December 14. The Bulletin has been revised to reflect this update. As you know, the BC Provincial Government has introduced a restriction on fuel, as a result of the impact of the recent floods. Unless operating an essential vehicle, residents are limited to purchasing 30 litres of fuel per trip to the gas station in these areas:

    New funding rounds for major federal programs

    New funding rounds were announced earlier this week for two major federal research programs: the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) and the Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC).

    Paid leave for staff between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

    With the holiday season approaching, please note that certain UBC staff are eligible for paid leave during the university’s seasonal closure – the three normal working days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. This year’s seasonal closure falls on December 29, 30, and 31, 2021.

    Equity Enhancement Fund – call for proposals

    As part of UBC’s commitment to advancing equity and inclusion across its campuses, faculty and staff are invited to submit a proposal to the Equity Enhancement Fund for projects that are responsive to community needs and advance one or more of the actions outlined in UBC’s Inclusion Action Plan. Please encourage faculty and staff in your area to submit a proposal by November 29. Up to $15,000 in funding per project is available in Vancouver, and up to $10,000 is available in the Okanagan.

    Dr. Ananya Mukherjee Reed appointed Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR

    It is with mixed emotions that we wish to announce that Dr. Ananya Mukherjee Reed, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University, situated in India’s National Capital Region (NCR) near New Delhi. This is a very exciting opportunity for Dr. Mukherjee Reed, who will assume her new responsibilities in late January 2022.

    We are pleased to announce that Carly Stanhope has been appointed as Director, Investigations Office, effective December 6, 2021.  Carly has been in the acting Director, Investigations Office position since June 2021.

    Help us engage faculty and staff in the 2021 Workplace Experiences Survey

    On November 1, UBC will open the 2021 Workplace Experiences Survey, which provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to share feedback on their experience of working at UBC. A UBC Broadcast will be issued on that date with more information about the survey and its role in informing decisions at UBC. Following the UBC Broadcast, faculty and staff will receive their unique survey link directly from our survey consultant TalentMap.
