    2023 UBC Teaching Practices Survey opens May 2

    From May 2 to 30, UBC will be running its third Teaching Practices Survey to better understand how faculty members, as well as those who teach, structure learning for students. The survey, which is conducted every four years, also offers an opportunity to provide confidential feedback on teaching practices and perceptions of the teaching climate in Vancouver and the Okanagan.

    Update on UBC’s budget for the 2023/24 fiscal year

    UBC’s Board of Governors has approved the 2023/2024 budget, setting out the university’s spending priorities for the year ahead.As a whole, the university is operating in an environment of fiscal restraint, with distinct conditions existing at our two campuses. This year, and into future years, the combination of rising costs and constrained revenue will require conservative financial strategies and proactive approaches.

    Inviting proposals for the 2023 Continuous Learning Advancement Fund

    The Continuous Learning Advancement (CLAF) supports the creation, renewal and expansion of non-degree learning opportunities at UBC Vancouver. Initially launched in 2019 as the Online Learning Advancement Fund (OLAF), CLAF’s renewed focus is on growing UBC Vancouver’s capacity to serve continuous learners in British Columbia, as set out in the university’s strategic plans.

    External Review of the Faculty of Science, UBC Vancouver

    External reviews are conducted periodically to ensure that UBC’s Faculties and Administrative Units are supporting the university’s academic mission. In April, the Faculty of Science will undergo an external review as part of this process.

    A major cybersecurity breach has the potential to seriously hamper UBC’s operations, reputation and position as a world-class institution, as well as cause harm to individuals who have entrusted UBC with their personal information. As an Administrative Head of Unit (Dean, Principal, Director, Head of Department, etc.), you are accountable for the security of systems and protection of personal information within your Faculty or Administrative Unit. It is critical that Administrative Heads understand this responsibility and take the necessary steps to secure systems.

    UBC is embarking on a search for a new Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Faculty Planning.The Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Faculty Planning, oversees domestic and international enrolment, participates in the university budgeting process and provides advice to the Provost. This role also liaises with the Operations team on the development of strategic capital projects, coordinates the use of space and facilities, and works with the university emergency management team to ensure the safety of the UBC community.
