I am pleased to announce the appointment of Maggie Ivanova as UBC’s new Chief Enterprise Risk and Assurance Officer, effective April 7. This role reports to both the Vice-President, Finance and Operations, as part of the portfolio's Senior Leadership Team, and the Audit Committee of the BoardIn her new role, Maggie will provide strategic leadership to UBC’s Internal Assurance and Enterprise Risk Management functions, ensuring they align with the university’s strategic goals and evolving needs.

Coordinated strategy needed to prevent substance use harms in schools
Dr. Emily Jenkins, Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, has led a national survey which reveals that school principals across Canada are spending a substantial amount of time managing student substance use but lack the resources to respond effectively.The study recommends a pan-Canadian strategy to prevent substance use harms through K-12 schools in addition to a coordinated system of support to reduce substance use harms.

Learn about the 2024 UBC Workplace Experiences Survey
Over 9,000 faculty and staff members participated in the 2024 UBC Workplace Experiences Survey (WES), sharing feedback on their experiences of working at the university.Participation across UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan was 13 per cent higher than the previous WES survey in 2021. UBC’s overall engagement scores remained at 74% which is consistent with our score in 2021, and 3% higher than our comparison benchmarks for large organizations and the education sector. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts.

Judy Rogers
Judy Rogers is UBC’s 20th Chancellor, acting as the ceremonial head of the university and presiding over all major ceremonies and convocations. As Chancellor, she advocates for the university’s vision and plays a key ambassadorial role in strengthening UBC's relationships with stakeholders, alumni, and the community. A UBC alumna, Chancellor Rogers is a well-known leader in the province. She has had an extensive career in public service and governance, and has held significant leadership roles with the City of Vancouver, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, B.C. Assessment Authority, B.C. Housing Commission, and the UBC Alumni Association. Her contributions to community development have been recognized by the Order of Canada and United Nations Public Service Awards.
