    UBCO research study uncovers how endurance training transforms the body and mind

    “I wouldn’t say I was a couch potato,” laughs UBC alumnus Vicens Paneque. “But I’ve certainly never done anything this intense before. It’s changed the way I see my body and what it can do.”The “it” Paneque refers to is the ULTRA Project—a first-of-its-kind research study that aims to take 40 healthy but inactive individuals and, through a structured training plan, turn them into long-distance triathletes 12-months later.

    In alignment with its Indigenous Strategic Plan (ISP) and the goal of becoming a leading voice in implementing Indigenous peoples’ human rights, UBC is developing a framework for opportunities designated for Indigenous people. We encourage Indigenous students, faculty, and staff to participate in this initiative.

    Participate in UBC's Remembrance Day ceremony

    Since the opening of the War Memorial Gym in 1951, The University of British Columbia has held a ceremony commemorating November 11. This year, 2025 will mark seventy-five years that The University of British Columbia has hosted a Remembrance Day ceremony. This special ceremony is an opportunity for faculty, staff, students and members of the on and off-campus community to honour and remember all those who served in times of war, military conflict and peace.

    Protect yourself and others from the flu this season

    As the weather changes, protect yourself and others by getting your flu vaccine (flu shot). At UBC Vancouver, flu clinics will run on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12. You can book an advance appointment through the provincial government’s Get Vaccinated system.At UBC Okanagan, you can obtain a flu shot at a public clinic off campus or through a community pharmacy.
